Tafara

Our parish link
with St Philip’s Tafara

Under the umbrella of the Diocese of Rochester’s companionship with the Diocese of Harare in Zimbabwe. https://rochester.anglican.org/about-us/overseas-links/
St Margaret’s has a strong partnership with St Philip’s Tafara, a parish in the eastern suburbs of Harare.

The document setting out our mutual commitments is displayed in the Tufton Chapel.

Our congregations are linked with those of St Philip’s and its two outstations, St Matthias and Holy Name. We remember Tafara in our prayers and have regular contact with the Rector of St Philip’s, Rev Fr Farai Kuwanda, and their Assistant Priest, Rev Wyclif Magada.

St Margaret’s has recently supported the construction of a new church building for St Matthias. That project is going well. The roofing is now complete, and our friends in Tafara have purchased 10,000 bricks to raise the walls. They are hoping to buy another 20,000 bricks after the harvest thanksgiving at the end of October.

We are currently raising money to help St Philip’s provide Christmas and Easter food parcels for elderly people and child-headed families in Tafara. Our support is vital because of the economic situation in Zimbabwe, which this year has been exacerbated by a severe drought induced by the El Niño weather phenomenon.

A prayer for Zimbabwe

God bless Zimbabwe:
protect her children,
transform her leaders,
heal her communities,
and give her peace,
for Jesus Christ’s sake,
Amen.
