It was during 2020 and often with people meeting online, that St Margaret’s started the journey to show that we could be recognised as an Eco Church. A Rocha UK’s Eco Church programme equips churches in England and Wales to care for creation. Eco Church is a learning community of churches of all shapes and sizes open to all denominations. It provides a framework to support your church and its leadership to take practical action on caring for God’s earth through the Eco Church survey. The survey covers five key areas of church life:
- Worship And Teaching.
- Buildings.
- Land.
- Community And Global Engagement.
- Lifestyle.
In 2021, after completing the survey in the five areas, St Margaret’s was assessed to have earned a BRONZE AWARD.
Our journey continues with our clergy, PCC, and a group of volunteers considering the five key areas of church life as we work towards a silver award. As a church, we aim to take practical steps to care for God’s earth and to promote environmental awareness.
