Many people are familiar with St Margaret’s because of the wonderful horse – chestnut trees in front of the church or the colourful flower tubs along the railings. The churchyard to the south of the church is a special sacred area and green space in the centre of Rainham. Our environment is something to treasure. As a church, we strive to safeguard the integrity of creation to sustain and renew the life of the Earth.
We take environmental concerns into account in all aspects of our church life, including worship, teaching, mission, youth and children’s work, training, administration, and community involvement. Please explore the various environmental areas linked to St Margaret’s.
Bird Box Project

Eco Church
It was during 2020 and often with people meeting online, that St Margaret’s started the journey to show that we could be recognised as an Eco Church. A Rocha UK’s Eco Church programme equips churches in England and Wales to care for creation. Eco Church is a learning community of churches of all shapes and sizes open to all denominations. Rainham Eco Hub
An umbrella organisation to bring people together locally to tackle the global environmental crisis. Rainham Eco Hub was founded by Liz and Kayleigh in March 2020. This came about after discussions in the community of Rainham, around the grass verges that were being left to grow and the encouraging comments about the positive effects this would have on our local wildlife, also the increase in PPE since the start of the pandemic, and the amount that was left discarded in…
