Job Title:     Contemporary Music Lead

Location:    St. Margaret’s Church, Rainham and local schools

Hours:       12 hours     Flexible working

Starting:    ASAP

Salary:   Circa £12k per year          

Holidays:   To be taken outside term time

Main purpose of the role:

Develop and implement a vision for the development and enhancement of Spirit-led contemporary musical worship at St. Margaret’s Church aligned with our vision to grow spiritually, transformationally, and numerically. 

The successful candidate will need to be a practising Christian.

What you will be doing:

  • Guiding the congregation in worshipping God through music by selecting relevant songs, teaching them and leading the congregation in prayer and praise.
  • Work in collaboration with others to develop a shared vision of worship through music and song.
  • Consider a wider use of musical worship within the Church’s activities.
  • Work in collaboration with others to deliver a programme of contemporary worship at our 10.30 Service on a Sunday morning
  • Working with existing members of the music group to enhance and deliver music for our 10.30 service of Holy Communion.   
  • Planning and supporting the delivery of seasonal services. 
  • Recruit new musicians, encourage and have pastoral responsibility for the members of the music group.
  • Pioneer the development of a lunch time Gospel Choir Club  in a local school during term time.
  • Pioneer the development of an afternoon Gospel Choir Class in a local school during term time.
  • Develop musical outreach into the community by leading a bi-monthly ‘come and sing’ community gospel event in church.

Skills and experience:

  • A proven musical talent, including instrumental proficiency and vocal strength
  • Excellent Leadership and interpersonal relationship skills for co-ordinating the team and fostering engagement
  • Understanding of the theological significance of music in worship
  • Excellent communication skills to inspire and guide others effectively
  • The ability to lead the congregation in songs and create a harmonious worship atmosphere
  • Able to adapt to different worship styles and changing circumstances
  • An expertise in and ability to inspire and guide children and young people through music
  • The ability to mentor and encourage children to develop their musical abilities and confidence.
  • Empathy and an ability to connect with a diverse group of people

You will be working in St. Margaret’s Church Rainham and local schools.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) requirements:

You will require an Enhanced DBS check and Barred list

Training Requirements:

Safeguarding, Basic Awareness, Foundation,  Leadership, Domestic Abuse

Other relevant training as required, ensuring all activities are in line with good Safeguarding and Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Other Information: There is a genuine Occupational requirement under the Equality Act 2010 for this post, that the successful candidate is a practising Christian as this post carries with it the specific responsibility for promoting a Christian identity.
