VE DAY80 at ST MARGARET’S Thursday 8th May 2025
Thank you to everyone involved with VE DAY80 at St. Margaret’s.
During the day the local community helped to place 80 solar lights along the church path to make a symbolic PATH FOR PEACE.
Twelve children, members of the school council from St Margaret’s CE Junior School and staff visited all seventeen WW2 war graves in the churchyard, remembered the fallen and placed a light at the grave. Each grave was marked by a red streamer and poppy.
The children helped to plant a PEACE rose in a flower bed within the churchyard.
In the Tufton Chapel candles were lit as well as prayers, Bible verses and poems read.
At dusk the bell ringing team rang as the lights came on and the path captured in photographs as a reminder of the day.
The lights have now been taken by members of the congregation and community to place in their gardens around the parish, as a gesture to spread peace.
